Feedback invited on draft designs for a new community at Tudeley Village

Published 23rd September 2020

A series of collaborative planning workshops to design a new community between Tonbridge and Paddock Wood have been called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They are being replaced by an invitation to view the work to-date and submit ideas and feedback on a draft masterplan.

The week-long charrette was scheduled for March this year but had to be postponed due to the lockdown.

Land between Tonbridge and Paddock Wood, which is owned and managed by the Hadlow Estate, has been identified in the draft Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Local Plan as a potential site for a new village of up to 2,800 homes, alongside public open space, employment land and other facilities.

Harry Teacher of the Hadlow Estate said: “We were disappointed to have had to postpone our charrette, a series of master-planning workshops, earlier this year. In light of evolving government guidance, restrictions and legislation, we have regretfully concluded that rescheduling the event will not be possible.

“With this in mind, we want to share our work to date, which has involved understanding the natural and built environment as it is today, and sketching some ideas as to how it might develop over future decades.  Working with experts in Florida and UK-based architects, we have begun to shape this draft masterplan for a sustainable village designed to meet future social, environmental and economic needs.

“We have also taken into consideration how the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we want to live and work; with walkable neighbourhoods, access to public open space and community facilities a priority.”

The work to-date and a draft masterplan will be published on this website, along with new information and a questionnaire inviting feedback.

Covid-19 restrictions permitting, the Estate is also hoping to host an exhibition where visitors will, by appointment, be able to view the evolution of the draft designs.
